Human Progress and Future of Mankind.


Between our primate origins and present human, we must acknowledge a definite form of progress.

Philosophies of the Future

Various philosophies question the human future: Teleology, purpose, determinism, philosophy of history, are among them. Many philosophers have spent a large part of their studies on that question: Aristotle, Saint-Augustine, Saint-Thomas, Kant, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, August Comte or Teilhard de Chardin. Religion speaks of eschatology. Our web-site is part of this philosophical tradition.

Science fiction as a relay

For a century, Teleology more or less deserted the shaken shores of the philosophy. Philosophers had to invest in other disciplines (psychology, politics, and sociology); thinking had to study questions like "who are we?" abandoning "where are we? ». Socrates’ children being stuck in the immediate future consideration, science fiction took over the torch of the future. Philosophy in great need of certainty left its eschatological subsidiary to novelists.

Following Fashion

In order to keep his status of science, philosophy must stick to the scientific atmosphere of the time. For some centuries already, sciences stay within phenomena, concreteness, and appearance.
The study of the past or the present is a concrete topic, which can receive the "scientific" stamp; however, the projections for the future are deprived of such credit. In the era of modern sciences, the philosophy must stand to phenomena in order to be taken seriously.
It is difficult to study the distant future without crossing the idea of God or … Marx; in today's world, neither one nor the other is largely respected. It is therefore natural for a philosopher willing to ensure his career, to stick to the phenomena, to study psychology, ethics, love or happiness, all topics in the air of the time.

Evolution towards perfection

«Mécanique universelle” talks forth on the human future; it is the central piece of its thinking; however, despite his peremptory tone, it makes no scientific evidence of its teleology; it has not found any formula to confirm its concept; nothing that can prove its motto: "humanity moves effectively towards perfection".
It simply tries to be as logical as possible; as we well know, our assumption will only be confirmed (or set aside) in the future. We can always be comforted in thinking that it was the same story for Charles Darwin; his theory, born of intuition, is still being confirmed progressively.

Difficult studies of the Future

To the question whether the future of humanity can be scientifically forecasted, we respond in an affirmative way. To the question whether if it is a feasible project, we say also answer yes.
One day, science will have accumulated sufficient knowledge to prove the existence of a certain "evolutionary axis", starting from our origins, passing through the present towards an inevitable future, which purpose will be scientifically determined.
Today, it is still impossible to quantify what we call progress, as well as to ascribe its directional arrow. However, contemporary sciences start developing highly performing simulation systems, able of anticipating future events from past data.
Indeed new ways of simulation appear, extended to new branches such as history, sociology, psychology, and neuroscience. These new disciplines will be valuable to illustrate this "axis" which we assume the existence.

To consider Evolution as: "determined to achieve perfection" is a matter of "belief". Without irrefutable evidence, that will always be. For the time being our philosophy is akin to a mystic. It is at the stage of dogma.

Unifying teleology’s energies

To prove irrefutably that purpose is obviously not in the scope of the “Mécanique universelle”. It is probably out of reach of a solitary individual and too early in human history.
Some genius such as Kant or Hegel, have dedicated their lives to try to shed light on this wonderful purpose. All their writings were aimed at proving the existence of a sense of humanity, an evolution moving towards peace and total spiritual development.
But none of their findings (yet so fair in my view) was admitted as final legislation.
This will probably be the case of our theory. If it proves false, humanity will forget it. If it is too much in advance, it will be postponed to eligible time *.

On «Mécanique universelle”

The “Mécanique universelle” is the clumsy frame of an achievement requiring a whole group to conduct its exploration. Only a common work including all disciplines *,

would draw the best of some of its ideas. *

Scientific, philosophical and spiritual. This task requires the participation of historians, philosophers, physicists, and biologists; of theologians, sociologists, psychologists etc. The challenge is huge: "simply" to try to "lift the veil" on the sense of Mankind; to discover partly the meaning of our presence in the world. Suffice here to take back (although inexpertly), a somewhat forgotten philosophical way.
