Improving Liberalism

Conclusion of the chapter

abraham janssens, Allegorie de l’inconstance vers 1617Reflections on globalization and current liberalism

Smith's thinking was more nuanced in many respects, and it was not intended, like that of the neo-liberals, to reveal the implications of laissez-faire. Lagueux

Looking at things from a pragmatic point of view, we are obliged to recognize certain evidences. Humanity, it was inevitable, had to pass through globalization and liberalism was destined to occupy the cockpit.

This process of globalization is indeed a principle of reality, as the tenors of liberalism regularly point out.

Only when the ultra-liberals use the reality argument to discredit all disputes of their system, they act badly. they simply prevent the guards from functioning. Today we hear only a bell sound. That of the singers of ultra liberalism. And when they deal with unrealistic and useless criticism of them or trade union demands, they simply abuse the poor world. These "experts" of neo-liberalism are simply reactionaries. Their archaic point of view is similar to that of the late 18th century thinkers who still supported monarchical absolutism when the new thinking was already preparing for the French revolution. If humanity had listened to these pre-revolutionary reactionaries, France would never have struck (in pole position) the death knell of the monarchy. No country before it, having yet dared to do so. Today, after 30 years of this neo-liberalism, it is perfectly reactionary and indecent for a somewhat empathic analyst to continue to support the liberal progress as it is realized. Any human being desirous of wanting the best for his fellow-creatures, ought to militate ardently for a change.

Real reform

Globalization is a reality and liberalism too. But that does not mean that they are irreformable. Today, the most realistic, innovative, logical and revolutionary point of view is precisely that of reform. And in this sense the French people show once again its avant-garde qualities. Its revolutionary vocation. France, in fact, finds itself again at the forefront. It is alongside the alter-globalists, the oppressed and the poor all over the world (like our head of state J. Chirac). It seems to want to act in the direction of history. Oriented towards positive change. It seems to have opted for a sound critique of liberal globalization as it has been applied for over 20 years.
